Ahmet Öztürk… A candidate to become the Arda Guler of Karate! Although he is only 18 years old, Ahmet Oztürk has already made his name with national and international achievements in karate. His passion for karate allowed him to overcome a journey full of difficulties, with perseverance. Let’s hear from him how he wrote an inspiring story with his global achievements, his determination in karate and the support he received during this journey.

Let’s get to know you first.

I am Ahmet Ozturk, I am 18 years old. I live in the Bahcelievler county of Istanbul. I am originally from Trabzon, I met karate when
I was 6 years old and I have been interested in many sports since then. Karate has given me not only physical strength but also important values such as discipline, patience and dedication. It has both contributed to my personal development and given me a different perspective about my life. I continue doing karate and I am determined to further advance in this sport.

How did you start doing karate? Can you tell us about the process of making this decision and what happened afterwards?

I was a hyperactive child, and I started doing karate upon my mother’s decision to discharge my energy. I wasn’t so interested at first, I always tried to escape from training, but with the support of my family, I kept it up anyway. Later on I got my first medal, and my interest in karate increased over time. So I decided to do this sport professionally. The workouts were challenging at the beginning as they required discipline and dedication, but it also motivated me to see that I was improving every day. For me, karate has been a journey not only physically but also mentally. Over time, I have improved myself both technically and personally, and my love for this sport has further increased.

You have championships and achievements; can you tell us about them? In what years did they happen, and what were the challenges and joys?

I received my first degree in 2019 as the third in the Black Sea and Caspian Countries Championship, a national and international competition, and won the bronze medal. This was a turning point for me, and getting a reward for my efforts clinched my commitment to karate. After that, I continued to do this sport much more willingly. I received a silver medal at the 2022 Turkish Karate Championship and became the selections’ runner-up. This was the result of a very intense training and many challenging conditions. In 2022, I experienced a physical disease in my waist and had to take a break from karate for 1 year. Actually, the doctor had forbidden me to do karate anymore, but I didn’t listen to him and continued my trainings. In fact, I participated in my training sessions more ambitiously. As a result, I received a gold medal at the 2024 Turkish Karate Championship and qualified for the national team, becoming the first to be selected by beating all competitors. We have prepared for the 2024 World Championship with our national team. The biggest challenge was to overcome my own limits and accept defeats without demoralizing myself. But every match I won gave me great joy and motivation. I finished the championship as the third in the world, and this was a source of great pride both personally and on behalf of my country.

What does karate mean to you?

Karate is not just a sport for me, it is a guide for my life. This journey has granted me many values such as discipline, dedication, patience and perseverance. It earned me the courage to face the challenges and the strength to fight them. Thanks to this sport, I have become not only a stronger athlete but also a more mature and conscious person.

What would you like to say about your cooperation with Özdisan?

Our cooperation with Özdisan has been one of the major turning points in my career. Both their financial and moral support played a big role in my success. Hi Kursat, can you please talk about yourself a bit?

I am Kursat Ceylan, a visually impaired individual from birth. I am the co-founder of WeWALK, which has developed patented Smart Cane technology for the full and equal participation of visually impaired people in social life. After attending elementary school in a boarding school for the blind, I completed high school. After that, I earned a degree in Psychological Counseling at Bogazici University and graduated from there. During those years, I studied psychology in the US for a semester. During my university years, I was selected from among 50 thousand applications and accepted to the YGA Social Innovation Program. I entered the world of technology with my friends, whom I met at the same program and with whom we launched WeWALK. As a team, we had developed different technologies for the visually impaired people even before WeWALK. However, all our experiences have taught us that in order to ensure the participation of visually impaired people in social life, it is necessary to improve the mobility of visually impaired individuals first, and we started working on WeWALK. Currently, I am also responsible for international growth in our WeWALK New York office.

Can you give general information about WeWALK company and
Smart Walking Cane?

WeWALK is a company that aims at the full and equal participation of visually impaired people in social life and develops technologies for this purpose. Our founding team consists of members who have both personal and professional visually impaired experiences, are closely aware of the daily difficulties that limit their independence, and are working on technologies that will overcome these difficulties. Our determination to overcome these challenges and create tangible changes in people’s lives forms the basis of our work.

The story of WeWALK actually goes back 15 years. Our founding team met the young people at YGA, a non-governmental organization, and started working on joint projects then. This group, including visually impaired individuals, has first developed different software solutions and won global awards. But then they decided to focus on the white cane, which has an important role in the lives of visually impaired people. The story of WeWALK Smart Cane actually started with a simple question: Why the white cane has hardly changed over a century while all technologies have advanced?

Our founding team aimed to fill this gap by combining the traditional white cane with the latest technology. This journey, which started as a project at YGA, has grown into a company supported by partners such as Imperial College London, the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and Microsoft. These developing technologies will improve the lives of visually impaired people around the world. Our work has been awarded many global awards, such as the King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation (UK) and TIME Magazine – Invention of the Year. Our close relations with the community, our professional knowledge, and our valuable partnerships encourage us to be more innovative and push the boundaries further every day.

During the development of our new technology, Smart Cane 2, the device was equipped with advanced sensors in order to provide more information about environmental obstacles. It can work integrated with smartphones via features such as GPS, Bluetooth, microphone and speaker and all functions are controlled either by the keys on the cane or through the voice assistant system. These technological innovations allow users to live a more independent and safer experience in their daily lives. Our Smart Walking Cane combines modern technology with the functions of a traditional white walking cane, allowing users to better perceive their surroundings and move more comfortably. We are also pleased to work with Özdisan for the production of our new generation Smart Walking Cane.

What differentiates WeWALK Smart Walking Can from others, and what specific advantages does it offer?

Visually impaired people use white canes in their daily lives. White canes, which have been used for more than 100 years, are an important symbol for the visually impaired. For the first time ever, these canes met with the latest technology that we have developed. WeWALK Smart Walking Cane 2 is a mobility assistant that increases the independent mobility and safety of visually impaired people, making their lives easier and more practical.

In addition to detecting obstacles on the ground, this advanced cane detects obstacles at chest and head level with the help of sensors on it. These detection features greatly increase the ability to move much more safely in different environments. The smart cane also includes a high-quality intelligent voice assistant. This allows users to interact with the device by voice. Users can ask for directions, get travel tips or easily request information about nearby places with only voice commands. This interaction is carried out via a Bluetooth connection, offering both comfort and safety during travel.

Also, WeWALK Smart Cane 2 offers a comprehensive travel experience that supports effective route planning and multimodal navigation options. With the real-time public transport information provided through Moovit collaboration, it also allows users to travel more independently and avoid missing important updates in the transportation system. With “What’s Around Me?” feature, it helps the user to explore all the surrounding places (cafes, restaurants etc.). The design of the smart cane is both stylish and durable, and made to withstand various weather conditions. Its lightweight but robust structure makes it an ideal daily helping companion. Combining the traditional white cane functions with modern technology, it allows visually impaired people to move around more freely and safely.

What is the Level of WeWALK Smart Cane to meet user expectations and make their life easier?

According to the feedbacks we have received from our users, the Smart Cane significantly increases the sense of independence of visually impaired individuals. Especially in complex urban environments, the obstacle detection and voice guidance features of the cane provide great convenience. Users are able to perform their daily tasks alone with less need for help, and participate in social life more actively.

What are the other technologies you have developed besides the Smart Cane?

In addition to Smart Cane, we are also working on additional technologies aimed at improving the quality of life of visually impaired people. Visually impaired people not only go from Point A to Point B with a smart cane, but actually get out of their homes and participate in social life. But they may still need visual support at home or wherever they go. For this reason, our DANIS (WeASSIST) service that we have
developed is a visual service that allows users to act more independently in their daily activities by receiving live support from our professional assistants.

Under a cooperation with TAV Airports, visually impaired people can now receive free routing services through DANIS, from the airport’s entrance gate to the plane’s gate. This service also allows them to act independently in areas such as lounge and duty free. Under a sponsorship by LC Waikiki, on the other hand, visually impaired people can use DANIS service for free to learn some details such as the patterns or sizes of clothes, enabling them to comfortably shop via LC Waikiki’s online shopping platforms. Under a cooperation with Akra Hotels, visually impaired people can benefit from DANIS service 24/7 when they need visual support at hotels in Antalya, Kemer, Side and Fethiye. These cooperations further support visually impaired people to live an independent social life via DANIS service, and open the doors to accessible tourism. We are also continuing our efforts with different industries to make such cooperations available to more visually impaired individuals.

In addition, by using different equipment such as ground direction sensors, gyroscope, accelerometer, compass etc., we have developed our AIM (Artificial Intelligence for Mobility) technology, which will fundamentally change the independent movement training. Visually impaired people can receive independent mobility trainings given by independent movement instructors. With the approach provided by AIM technology, trainings can be given not only based on observation, but also in a more data-oriented way. In addition, Independent Movement Instructors can monitor, analyze and guide the movements of visually impaired students in more detail with this technology. The AIM technology we have developed increases users’ mobility and improves their navigation skills by analyzing cane usage data.

What projects are you working on for visually impaired people as WeWALK, and what are the goals of these projects?

As WeWALK, we are developing various projects to facilitate their daily lives and enable them to participate more actively in social life by delivering our Smart Canes to the visually impaired individuals. One of our major projects is to provide Smart Walking Canes for visually impaired war veterans in Türkiye within the scope of a special protocol. In this way, we help them adapt to their “new situations in life” more easily. Another project we are carrying out in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education is aimed at accelerating the adaptation of visually impaired students to educational and social life by providing access to technology at an early age. Through individual donations, private company supports and our collaborations with several foundations, we are trying to deliver Smart Canes to more visually impaired people and increase their independence in society by taking more active roles. By improving our technology every day, we aim to make positive and permanent changes in the lives of visually impaired people. Today, communication has become an indispensable element that we rely on at every point of our lives. We desire to be accessible and able to connect to internet at any time, and have unlimited access to our remote data. In order for all these communication needs to be met, perfectly constructed infrastructures should be available. At this point, the companies such as SATELCOM come into play, creating sound communication infrastructures and providing easy access to data with satellite systems. We met with SATELCOM General Manager Murat Demirci and talked about their communication infrastructure, the systems they installed, and the overall functioning of the company.

First of all, can we get to know you a little?

I have been working as an electronic engineer for more than 20 years. I graduated Uludag University Electronic Engineering. Both during my university education and after my graduation, I worked part-time for almost five years on PCB design, micro-controller programming, and industrial automation, before completing my military obligation. I went to the US after my military service. I worked as a software and systems engineer in the field of industrial automation in the US for about four years. After I returned to Türkiye, I started working in the GSM sector and after three years I started working as a manager at another company.

Can we learn the foundation story of Satelcom?

After I returned to Türkiye, I worked in several companies in the field of GSM. In 2014, I met with Davut Yurttas and Mustafa Yurttas and together we founded Satelcom. We are working on cable and wireless communication technologies at Satelcom.

Can you tell us about the areas of operation of Satelcom in general?

Technology is in a crazy transformation process, creating all kinds of environments that will make people’s lives easier. People are discarding a hardware just six months after they bought, claiming that it is “outdated”. Keeping up with this speed is not easy not only for the manufacturers, but also for the companies in fierce competition. Satelcom has two main fields of operation: Engineering and integration in the field of communication. In other words, we deliver turnkey projects using the products of the companies, which we are a distributor of. We also carry out R&D and manufacturing activities on communication technologies. We manage the distributorship of the products ourselves. At the next stage after the research and development stages, we also receive services from our group companies in our manufacturing processes. For example, we are buying components from Ozdisan Elektronik. In turn, we are developing projects that will meet the wireless communication requirements of their own customers.

What are the main business lines at Satelcom?

We have three main business lines. The first is cellular technologies. Cellular technologies are the technologies used in the infrastructures of mobile phone operators. (2G, 3G, 4.5G) We supply products to operators in these fields. They can supply the radio frequency related products that they use on their networks from us. We are able to install the entire base station infrastructure. At Satelcom, we do turnkey business. In other words, we undertake all the business processes internally, from the project design to the supply, import, on-site installation, commissioning and testing of the products to the delivery of them to the operators. For example, let me give you an example from the job we completed at Atasehir Watercarden shopping mall, to explain in detail what we are doing. In order to provide mobile phone services at this shopping mall, a system needed to be established for each operator concurrently, and we put this system into operation. Usually problems occur when reaching the base stations on the towers outside the building due to reasons such as the permeability of the buildings or its distance to such towers. Also, due to the large number of users, it is necessary to create a new coverage area by setting up a separate base station in buildings such as airports, tunnels, hospitals, shopping malls. All the processes, including the installation and testing of the system, as well as submitting the results of these tests to the operators, are managed by us. At this point, I have to underline that the demand comes from GSM operators, not from shopping malls. In other words, our customers are GSM operators, not the shopping malls themselves. In order to meet the demands of both the operator and the building owners, we need to arrange our working hours in a way that does not affect the customers’ businesses. We install an entire infrastructure and deliver it to our customer in a running state. There are also antennas, components, connectors, aref cables, power systems, batteries, and test-related software used at base stations, that we sell directly to the operators. We are able to sell them directly, without any intermediate parties. All of these are our GSM-related operations.

Our second line of business, on the other hand, is satellite-related infrastructure services and integration engineering works. With satellite, I don’t refer to those that work one-way at our houses, but to the satellites that are used for two-way data exchange. In other words, the satellite terminals where we can both send and receive signals. We are able to supply products from the companies that we are a distribute of in this field, and meet the needs of our customers from a single point. Our customers in this field are usually the companies that operate in media sector. In other words, television channels, radio stations and news agencies receive services from us.

We are also able to provide satellite services to our customers. For example, Gentek is a company specializing in sensor technologies and the sensors they produce need to be gathered in cloud. The data should be written and accessible in order that the company can control them. They also need a data infrastructure to collect these data. We allow such companies to access data via satellites in locations where there is no internet. Another example would be, DMY Electronic Investments has established a solar power plant in Kas. This power plant is located atop of a mountain, far from the settlement areas, in a place where there is no GSM coverage. The company needs to be able to remotely monitor the inverters that produce energy there. Also, the data generated at the plant must be written to a cloud environment and remotely observable. In order to respond to the needs there, we have placed a satellite in the area where the power plant is located. With this, the company has gained the opportunity to access all kinds of data via satellite. Our third line of business is actually a business line similar to the examples I have just given. This line, called telemetry or M2M, can either be assessed alone or together with the others. In this field, we offer infrastructure services to migrate the data created by the equipment to a specific location. For instance, you have sensors and also equipment that will be remotely controlled. We are building infrastructures that will enable them to communicate in two directions. If we are also asked to provide sensors, we can do that as well. If we are asked to install a control system, we can get support from Savior, which is our group company.

What would you like to say about the Internet of Things?

The communication networks, so-called Internet of Things, in which physical objects are connected to each other or larger systems, have actually been around for years. Various protocols have been created over the years to allow a number of equipment, especially those used in the field of industrial automation, to communicate with central management systems. Although the communication between different equipment is thought to be only via smartphones and internet, many equipment have already been able to communicate with each other for many years. With the pioneering of GSM infrastructures, the quantities and speeds of the data transported began to increase. With the increase in speed, it has become easier to transmit a huge number of external data such as images and audio, as well as other small data. Thus, its popularity has increased. As the technology has advanced, the software and connectivity capabilities of the devices have also increased. Today, every object can be connected to internet. This has now started to be called the Internet of Things. We already used to be able to connect objects to a central point, but now the number of things we can do in this regard has expanded. For example, if your child is going to come home before you do, you can turn on your boiler an hour before with remote management and watch your house over the camera remotely. All these devices should have an internet connection so that you can manage them remotely. As the variety of these devices increases, they have become more involved in our lives.

What do you think is the reason behind the popularity of cloud technologies?

Cloud technologies have become very popular since they make life easier. In the past, you had to create the system that you could access, setting up your own cloud by yourself. You had to allocate a certain budget to keep this system running. Although the amount of data you would manage was not so large, you had to allocate a significant amount of money. In other words, the capacity and infrastructure you created could pretty exceed your actual use. In cloud technology, you don’t know where your information is stored. If you have rented a space from Amazon to store the data you have created, your data may be stored in Silicon Valley. When a maintenance is performed at the current location where your data is stored, it can be redirected to another center. In this way, you can get uninterrupted service without being affected by the maintenance. When investing for a data center, they usually try to choose places where the temperature profile is stable throughout the year. In this way, they are able to invest without extra costs for heating and cooling.

The fact that electronic components have a wide range of uses in our digitalized world increases the component demands daily. Ozdisan Elektronik, the largest component distributor in Türkiye, imports the necessary components and offers them to the manufacturers. Capacitive Crown Panels, TFT, GSM Modules, HDI PCB, Presence Sensors, measurement integrations that can make precise measurements, as well as current and voltage sensors, are just some of the products that have stood out in the sector in recent years. Although still not on a large scale, significant R&D studies are being carried out in the electronics component sector in our country, which is not in a manufacturer position yet. We talked with Okan Abdi, Deputy General Manager of Ozdisan Elektronik, about the electronics market in Türkiye, Ozdisan’s distributorships and the current agenda of the sector.

Which departments are you responsible for at Ozdisan Elektronik?

I am responsible for Component Sales, LED Lighting, Import/Export, R&D and Technical Support, E-Commerce, Aluminum Cooler Production, and Board Placement departments. In addition to these, a new department called “Project and New Product Development”, established about a month ago, continues its operations under my supervision.

What is the trend of the electronics market in the world?

I can say that electronics are now used in every point in our lives. New revolutions such as Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things (IoT) have brought a new era to technology. From televisions to refrigerators and smartphones to tablets, the electronics industry has turned into an environment where machines are talking to each other and we are just watching them. Since it is a constantly developing sector where it is difficult to keep up with the speed of electronics, the companies need to constantly refresh themselves in terms of information. That’s why the companies have to be innovative. In the developing electronics industry, the consumers’ interest in smaller and stronger devices has also increased the need for the components to be produced in smaller cases. Speed is very important in electronics sector too. Fast and easy access to information is a criterion that everyone should focus on. Software is now at least as important and effective as the design itself. That’s why the cloud technology is a new disruptive in this game. Companies are just realizing what Industry 4.0 means. Each production company and factory should adapt itself to this structure and increase their productivity. The future of companies that cannot adapt to this will not be bright.

Can you share the sectoral figures?

There is a huge market in the electronics sector in the world, and our country also holds an important market. Important players in the world are also located in Türkiye. Ozdisan is a distributor of electronic components. In terms of distributorship, Ozdisan is the company with the highest turnover in this market. Some large companies are able to make their purchases by themselves. The cap of the distributorship market, on the other hand, is estimated as just over $250 million. I can say that Ozdisan is in a leading position in the market with a share of about 40 percent.

How do you assess the current situation of the Turkish market in the field of electronic components?

The wide use of electronics in almost every sector in Türkiye results in a huge demand for electronic components in industrial applications. Recently, in particular, the demand for electronic components in the defense industry and the medical sector has increased. Products that work more efficiently and with fewer errors, such as robotic devices manufactured with nano-technology, are very much in demand. On the other hand, electronic designs and software are also important. There are a lot of innovative companies in Türkiye in this regard. The support or incentives offered to innovative and designer companies needs to be increased. It takes time to get to a certain point in the industry.

What are the prominent trends in the sector?

The products show periodicity. There is a trend from large devices to small devices. Therefore, the materials also began to shrink in size. The demand for surface-mounted electronic components is gradually increasing in the world. Devices that are more functional, more powerful and lighter are in huge demand. People have recently started to attach importance to visual aspects when selecting a product. The demand for the devices with larger screens has also begun to grow. For this reason, the demand for high-brightness, high-resolution displays that the industry needs is increasing. One of the most preferred products recently is Capacitive Crown Panels. Ozdisan has recently made an investment abroad in this field. This panel is a precision-working product that gives the screen, which is mostly used on mobile phones, the ability to be touch-sensitive. One of the most important products used in the sectors where everything is electronic, security is of essence, and monitoring is severe, is the GSM Modules. Products used in vehicle tracking systems for remote monitoring are also in huge demand recently. At Ozdisan, last year we made an agreement with ZTE WELINK company, which sells module products of ZTE, the second largest company in China. We now offer 2G, 3G and 4.5G GSM modules to Turkish product designers. The requirements in electronics sector are increasing daily, and each company has different demands. Wireless communication, data and power transfer are now very important.
Wireless charging has now started to take its place not only in our homes or mobile phones, but also in our vehicles. OLED displays have become the most important display product used in new designs as they offer low power consumption. When we look at the medical sector, on the other hand, the chips that can make more precise measurements and the occupation sensors in smart home systems have started to be used. The HDI PCBs, required by developing technology and advanced technological products, also stand out as a strong trend.

Can we get information about your R&D investments?

At Ozdisan, we provide technical support for every product that we import as the distributor. We are examining whether the product used is suitable for the application. We support companies during designing phase. We are not an R&D company. However, occasionally we carry out “small” R&D studies in order to support the companies that need us. We have an R&D and Technical Support department within Ozdisan, which mostly consists of our technical support staff. We are making investments for this team. We are able to invest in a measurement instrument, device or any machine that will be used in designing another product. Of course, these are not very big investments.

What are the leading technologies in the LED market?

There has been a strong movement within the lighting sector for many years. Everyone wants to get a share in this industry. Under current conditions, prices of LED lighting have now reached rock bottom. We are importing 35-35 cases, 3030s, COB cases of different sizes or 3528, 3020, 3014 size cases as low-power components in this field, which we call Power LEDs. 2 years ago, we made a distributorship agreement with Cree, one of the leading global companies. In this regard, we distribute their products to the manufacturers in Türkiye. No matter which company you go to in lighting sector, Cree is a well-known company. In addition, we are importing the products of Seoul Semiconductor, the largest LED manufacturer in Korea.

You are the distributor of the leading global brands. What do you pay attention to when determining the brands that you will become a distributor of?

The number of companies represented by Ozdisan is over 60. In fact, power electronics was the main sector for us when we started the business but now we are distributing several different products to meet the needs of various sectors. We pay attention to the fact that companies have a say in the sector. The fact that the product range is wide is also an important criterion. We offer the buyers a wide range of product options. Product quality is also an important factor. When we visit the product fairs, we carefully examine the products there. When undertaking distributorship, we pay attention to the fact that the brand in question is a brand that has not been represented by another company in the sector. We want the company that we will be a distributor of to be strong, to look positively at sole distributorship, to be popular, innovative and creative, and to be readily available to support their products both now and in the future.

Can Türkiye become a producer in this import-oriented sector in the near future? Are there any existing investments in this regard?

From the point of view of the electronics sector, it seems difficult for Türkiye to become a manufacturer at the moment. Unfortunately, the production of electronic components has not been supported in our country sufficiently. Making huge investments without receiving incentives is difficult. A resistor production was planned in Türkiye many years ago, but although the resistor is the simplest but most widely used component of electronics, we failed. I can say that we missed the train for the production of electronic components. Although certain studies have been carried out at TUBITAK, and transistors used in high technology products have been manufactured, it does not seem to be a production activity that will manage to globalize in terms of mass production at the moment. Ozdisan has no investments directly into products yet, but our company owners Mustafa Yurttas and Davut Yurttas may have plans for the production of TFT screens in Türkiye in the future, which we currently produce in China.

Are there any brands that have recently joined your distribution network?

I can give UTC, ZTE Welink, Core Master, and Lifud companies as a few examples. There are also new companies that we are conducting researches on but have not officially announced yet. We keep adding new companies each and every day.

Can you tell us about your company’s short and long term plans?

Ozdisan is the leading company in electronic components field. For the short term, we aim to support the manufacturing companies in the sector and maintain our leading position in Türkiye.

For the long term, on the other hand, we aim to be a global company that sell products to many countries with our infrastructure and the electronic platform we have recently established. We aim to create “Ozdisan dealers” in Europe in a short time.

Anything you want to add?

Ozdisan is an innovative company that leads the sector. With this vision, we founded a website using our own equity capital. The ability to further develop industrial branches in accordance with today’s requirements depends on the developments in the automation sector. We met with Dr. Huseyin Halici, President of the Industrial Automation Industrialists Association, which is the only association of the automation sector that has undertaken an important mission towards the industrialization of Türkiye, and listened to his assessments about the industry. Halici answered the questions about the activities of the Association and talked about its new goals.

Could you tell us a bit about yourself?

I graduated Electronics and Communication department of Yildiz Technical University Faculty of Engineering. In the same year, I joined the Master’s Program of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Istanbul Technical University, Institute of Science, Department of Electronics and Communication. Currently, I work as General Manager at HALICI Elektronik Ltd. Sti. I have also been serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of ENOSAD – Industrial Automation Industrialists Association, which I’ve been a member for many years and served as a Board Member during the 3rd, 4th and 5th terms.

Can you please tell us the reason for the foundation of the association, as well as its story?

Several meetings were held by the leading companies of the sector before ENOSAD was established in 2004. The objective was to create a frame that would reveal and ensure the awareness of this sector, which is actually the cornerstone of the industry. The association was found by 16 valuable companies in the sector under the presidency of Dr. Emin Olcay. After that, major leading companies in the sector were invited to join this platform that represents the sector. 106 companies operating in several sectors such as factory automation, process automation, assembly line automation, robotic automation, etc. are currently under the roof of our association, which we have defined as a technology platform in this journey that started with the participation of 16 local and foreign founding companies. Since the day it was founded, the Association has been continuing its initiatives to raise awareness that the industrial automation sector is a “stand-alone” sector, introduce the sector to the government bodies, and try to find solutions for the issues of the sector. Our Association continues its efforts to move our sector, which has an important role in the development of our country, to the position of a main “industry”.

Can you tell us about your activities at ENOSAD?

Since the moment we took office, our main objective has been to bring our Association, which is composed of valuable members, to the best point it deserves, as been done by all administrations since its establishment. Taking this structure into account, in addition to ensuring the continuation of the efforts that have been started before, the most important point in technology today in terms of the development and change that is taking place globally is digitalization, which is the “Industry 4.0” revolution as first defined by the German government in 2011. As a result of the studies initiated by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, the “Digitalization Platform in Industry” was established under the presidency of Dr. Faruk Ozlu in 2017. Our Association ENOSAD took part directly with in this “Digital Transformation Platform in Industry” upon the recommendation of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, and has been continuing to work in the ‘Digital Technologies in Industry’ and ‘Advanced Production Techniques’ groups since 2017, which are two of the 6 working groups of the platform.

What is the current situation of the industrial automation sector in Türkiye?

When we look at the TUIK (Turkish Statistics Institute) data, the share of high-tech products in manufacturing industry exports is 2.7 percent, while it is 15.8 percent in manufacturing industry imports. At this point, we can see how important it is for us to be a country that not only “uses” technology, but also “produces” it. As the market is being shaped by the use of advanced technology in the Industrial Automation sector and the increasing sales of technological products, the studies on both technological production and technological service production are increasing as well. As is the case in many sectors in our country, the industrial automation sector is also dependent on foreign trade. Although some of the basic inputs of the Industrial Automation sector are imported, it would not be correct to look at this case solely from this point of view. The level of automation in a country’s industry is the most important factor that determines the quality of products in that country and, therefore, the level of competition. It increases the competitiveness, efficiency of the sectors and increases the quality. The best example of this on the basis of human – machine cooperation is the Industrial Automation sector, which increases the export opportunities for the “Machine Manufacturing Sector”, which is the shining star of Türkiye.

What are the most important problems of the sector?

The biggest issues in the development of the automation sector are that the investments made are insufficient and the public and private sectors have not yet achieved the desired level of awareness about the benefits of automation. At this point, big tasks fall to us. The main difference between the industries of the developed countries and the industry of our country is basically R&D and automation. For this reason, the government needs to provide adequate infrastructure and investment support. By encouraging production and investment, as well as supporting R&D activities, we can become a country that creates high added value. As in other sectors, one of the biggest problems in the automation sector is the lack of technical staff capable of using systems, rather than engineers. The biggest task in this regard also falls to technical and vocational schools. In this regard, it will be possible to train both qualified technical personnel and qualified manpower with an education system that will be provided by both technical and vocational schools and universities at European standards.

How does Industry 4.0 affect the sector?

Today, the manufacturing sector is affected and shaped by the developing technologies, as well as the people’s lifestyles and expectations. Now, with the development of technology, a production process in which the human factor is minimal is aimed to be achieved. Particularly, in line with the super rapid development of computer technologies, the era of smart factories will begin. This period is defined as Industry 4.0, by accepting today as the starting point. The period of self-deciding and self-supervising manufacturing plants, where each component in the machinery communicates with each other, will begin. Manufacturing systems with artificial intelligence, which are defined as Cyber Physics Systems or “IoE” (Internet of Everything), are predicted.

In short, as the era of smart machines becomes widespread and common, the companies shall be able to achieve maximum profits as a result of creating the highest efficiency and quality with the least workforce and energy. The manufacturers that managed to achieve this in the fastest way will be left alone in the competition. The manufacturing processes based on conventional methods, on the other hand, will most probably lose their competitive advantages in terms of their inputs and face the risk of losing significant sales opportunities. For our country, Industry 4.0 is a key component in structural transformation to reduce the middle income trap. It is very clear that it will trigger creativity and innovation in our country. We should aim to be a country that not only uses technology, but also produces and develops it. Industry 4.0 is a very good opportunity for this purpose.

Important developments are taking place in the world regarding Industry 4.0. What is the situation of Türkiye in this regard?

Studies are being carried out in our country on Industry 4.0, in other words, “Digitalization”. As a result of these studies, the “Digital Transformation Platform in Industry” was established by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology in the early 2017, where the chairmen of the highest-level businesses and organizations (TOBB / TIM / TUSIAD / MUSIAD / YASED and TTGV) are the members of Executive Board.

Within the framework of this platform, working groups have been formed with the aim of assessing the general situation of our country in this field, determining its current needs, making the necessary strategy plans and preparing technology roadmaps.

Although these working groups are independent in their fields, they are individual components of a whole. In this regard, our Association ENOSAD, which consists of local and foreign companies that operate in several industries such as Factory Automation, Process Automation, Assembly Line Automation, Robotic Automation, etc. continues its operations through ‘Digital Technologies in Industry’ and ‘Advanced Production Techniques’ groups, which are two of the 6 working groups created within the framework of this platform. All national and international members of ENOSAD have a certain amount of know-how in to develop and implement ’Industry 4.0‘.

What are your objectives for the coming period?

We are a structure that, in addition to our experienced members who have contributed a lot in the past, includes all the members of the Association with our new team consisting of our colleagues who joined us during this period. We aim to work more actively by taking into account the opinions and suggestions of all members and implement them as much as possible. While we are continuing the studies we have started so far, we also aim to implement our new projects on behalf of our Association, our members and our sector in general.

This also brings a new momentum to industrial automation sector, as the continuing efforts to achieve a stable economy in our country have a positive impact on all sectors. If permanent and long-term solutions are not ensured in the investment environment in line with this acceleration, this development process would not reach the desired levels. In addition, another important issue is that the full functionality of the University-Industry cooperation has not been achieved yet. Universities should really be a part of the industry. In practical applications, it should provide an impact on the careers of faculty members at least as much as the scientific articles. On-hands training should be given at the universities. For example, in Germany, the universities that develop products together with companies send a certain number of their students to companies throughout the year, as it is the case in vocational high schools in Türkiye. There should be some sub-departments that can be applied to real life in the universities that combine this structure. We are sure that other definitions will emerge among computer engineering and electronic engineering to apply computer infrastructure to industry.

Dentist Adem Can Karaçor is a health professional who steered his career based on his admiration for his aunt, who is a physician, along with the guidance of his family. Born and raised in Adana and graduated from Çukurova University Faculty of Dentistry, Adem Karaçor currently serves his patients in his own clinic using the leading-edge technology and innovative treatment methods. In this exclusive interview, Dentist Adem Karaçor shared with us his career journey, his passion for the profession and his deep interest in technological innovations in dentistry.

Mr. Adem Karaçor, could you please kindly allow us to get to know more about you?

I was born in Adana in 1988, so currently I am 36 years old. I grew up in Adana with my family. My aunt graduated from Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine. As a result of my admiration for her profession, I decided to pursue a career in the health care industry. My aunt guided me to dentistry and I qualified to study in Çukurova University Faculty of Dentistry. After graduating in 2011, I started working in Osmaniye. After completing my compulsory military service in Cyprus in 2014, I moved to İstanbul in 2015 upon an offer from Dr. Galip Gürel. In 2017, my right shoulder was broken in an accident thereupon I took a break from actively serving as a dentist and started giving special trainings to dentists. After my shoulder healed, I opened my own clinic in İstanbul. We have been serving our patients at Vital Fulya Plaza since 2018. Currently I am making presentations and testing new technologies and products as the Key Opinion Leader (KOL) of 4 dental companies. Furthermore I have been interested in photography for over 20 years. I have been involved in Photoshop and video editing since my childhood. I also play the ney, clarinet and classical guitar; I learned playing all three instruments by trying them out on my own and I love playing them very much. We have been keeping our clinic closed on Saturdays and Sundays for a year. Thereupon, we are giving our employees the opportunity to spend more time with their families and to pursue their own hobbies. I focus on three main topics in my profession: Aesthetic dentistry and smile design, dental photography and using digital devices. I also set store in Dentophobia (Fear of Dentists) and anesthesia practices.

Which technological tools and methods have you been using in your clinic, could you please tell us about the effects of these technologies on patient treatments?

My goal in this profession is to always follow the leading edge technologies and make use of them in my clinic. For example, we have a digital anesthesia device that helps us to overcome needle phobia. We also use radiation-blocking Anti-Rad fabric coating in our tomography and x-ray rooms. This FDA-approved coating has successfully passed the Nuclear Regulatory Commission tests. We further manufacture prostheses with Cad-Cam robots in our in-house laboratory. Accelerating the treatment processes of our patients, these technologies offer a more comfortable experience.

What kind of a technology do you use for joint treatments?

We have a device called ModJaw that diagnoses jaw joint problems. Owing to this device, we record the movements that our patients make with their teeth with 80 micron precision. It helps us diagnose the root causes of problems such as tooth wear, teeth grinding and migraine. It further makes joint treatment more sensitive by displaying pressure values during function.

Is this device widely used in Türkiye?

Not yet. In fact there are only five of them in Türkiye. Using this device requires deep know-how, experience and a qualified dental team. That’s why we have constructed an interdisciplinary team. The team includes an osteopath, physiotherapist, orthodontist and other specialists.

What kind of trainings have you received to be able to perform these treatments?

At the age of 12, I started experiencing problems with my left jaw joint due to a deep cavity that caused my tooth to be extracted. I pursued this issue by receiving trainings from world-renowned specialists in the field. I attended trainings in Italy, Germany, Brazil, Romania, America, Spain, Dubai and Lithuania. The most groundbreaking training was the FACE (Functional And Cosmetic Excellence) training between 2016-2018. Thanks to these trainings I received, I integrated ModJaw into our clinic and improved our clinical sensitivity.

Could you tell us about Karaçor FaceLift?

Karaçor FaceLift is a treatment method that allows a non-surgical facelift. We can correct the face size and shape with porcelain laminates. We provide an aesthetic appearance without surgery by improving the facial features of our patients. With this treatment, facial muscles work better, skin tightens and wrinkles are reduced.

What are the differences between yours exclusive Karaçor FaceLift concept and the facelift we know (FaceLift)?

Karaçor FaceLift rejuvenates patients’ faces by correcting teeth with porcelain laminates. After this treatment, patients either give up surgery or the size and scope of the surgery is decreased, reducing the risk of complications. However, it is not possible to apply it to every patient. The patient’s suitability for treatment is determined with detailed examination and ModJaw records; in some cases, further MRI and tomography may be required.

What kind of changes do your patients experience after this treatment?

Permanent changes are observed in our patients after their dental age becomes younger. They take more quality sleep, they have tighter facial muscles and their wrinkles are reduced. The hollow area under the eyes are filled, the lips are volumized. Patients’ diction improves, their speech becomes easier, and their neck and shoulder pain are relieved. As the teeth become sharper, they use less force to chew, which reduces their teeth clenching. The masseter and temporal muscles are reduced, allowing wide faces to narrow. In addition, the intestinal microbiota develop positively.

Could you please talk about Longevity with Tooth Age?

Teeth wear away over time and move away from their original state. With this concept, we rejuvenate the teeth of our patients. For example, we can make the teeth of a 40-year-old patient look like the teeth of a 9-year-old child. For this treatment, we need to apply porcelain laminate or composite filling to at least 24 and at most 28 teeth. We perform this procedure by only abrading the cracked and soft parts of the teeth. This is in line with the principles of minimally invasive dentistry. This treatment improves our patients’ sleep quality, tighten their facial muscles, relieves their speech and improves overall health status.

How do you provide the optimum dental care services to your patients with these treatment methods and technologies?

We apply the SlowDentistry concept, which makes our patients’ treatment processes more comfortable and stress-free. The SlowDentistry concept includes principles such as not beginning the treatment without ensuring full anesthesia, not reducing the time allocated for the disinfection of treatment rooms, and using specific rubber sheets while removing amalgam fillings. With these techniques, we achieve higher quality results by extending the treatment process. In addition, our Smile Rehabilitation Clinic concept allows us to manage the treatment process with a more holistic approach. With this treatment protocol, we correct the loss of size on our patients’ faces, the change in the shape of their muscles, the thinning of their lips and the approaching of their chin tips to their noses without surgery.

What is Digital Smile Design (DSD) and which advantages does it provide to your patients?

Digital Smile Design (DSD) provides our patients with a 3D smile design and shows them in advance what they will look like after treatment. We design the most suitable smile by taking digital measurements of the patient’s teeth and facial structure. This technique allows our patients to see in advance what kind of results they will get after treatment.

You are also interested in dental photography?

Photography is a passion I have inherited from my aunt. My first camera was an analog Zenit, which my aunt gave me as a gift. I took out the lenses inside the machine and put them on the phone for taking macro photos with the right combination. I already have registered 6 international patents, 3 of which are in dentistry. I also have 1 industrial design patent in Türkiye. I have about 30 more inventions that I have not yet applied for registration. We aim to provide the optimum dental care services to our patients with these treatment methods and technologies. We prioritize the health and comfort of our patients by following the most recent developments in dentistry.

In this exclusive interview with Hakan Ozkahraman, the company’s R&D Electronic Technologies Leader, we discussed the founding story of Koc Medical, its achievements during the pandemic and its future goals. Ozkahraman shared with us the company’s commitment to innovation and technology, their impact in the healthcare sector, the difficulties they have experienced and how they have overcome these difficulties. Can you tell us about your founding story?

The story of Koc Medical started in June 2021 with the manufacturing of 5000 ventilators in cooperation with the Ministry of Health to offer a solution to ventilator shortage experienced during the peak periods of the pandemic and continued with the establishment of Koc Medical B.V in the Netherlands and Koc Yasa Cok Yasa Medikal A.S. in Turkey by the end of 2021. I was transferred to Koc Medical together with my friends who were working in a respiratory devices project at that time.

What are Koc Medical’s goals in the field of health technologies?

Koc Medical BV, the Netherlands based company of the Koc Group operating in the field of health technologies, was founded as a health technologies company in order to provide innovative solutions to health needs, to expand people’s access to healthcare services and become a leading regional health technologies provider. We continue to operate in two different product groups as “disposable medical consumables” and “medical devices”. At Koc Medical, we focus on the design and manufacture of medical devices and consumables in “conventional products” group. There are 2 individual companies affiliated to Koc Medical in Turkey. One of them is Koc Medical Cok Yasa Medikal A.S. founded in 2022, and the other is Bicakcilar Global Tibbi Urunler Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S., which has been operating in medical devices sector for more than 60 years and whose 100% shares were acquired by Koc Medical in July 2023. Having two separate companies not only diversify the product range in health technologies field but also contribute to expand the export markets and further strengthen the global growth. This will also support our country’s export/import coverage ratio in medical devices sector significantly.

Can you tell us about the ventilator projects and other medical devices that you have developed as Koc Medical?

Currently, our High Flow Oxgen Teraphy device is being used at hospitals with the brand name “Corensys Stelia”. We will also launch our Corensys Oxymax model soon, which is a higher level of this device. Our Oxymax model, which we have developed based on the experience we gained from our Stelia model, will be an HFOT device that can successfully compete with or even surpass the best devices in the global market. We have a sales and service network serving all regions of Turkey. We meet the needs of the hospitals round the clock. We respond to all the meeting and training requests from these hospitals. The hospital professionals, on the other hand, welcome us very warmly since we are a Turkish company, and share their experience with us in a very friendly way. Therefore, I can say that we have great relations with the hospitals, even after the sales.

What are the areas that you prioritize in your R&D studies?

Thanks to the respirators we developed during the pandemic, we have a certain amount of knowledge about respiratory issues. Accordingly, we continue to work on respiratory devices. After the acquisition of Bicakcilar, we are now developing new platform projects where the innovative technologies are integrated into the operating table and lamp products manufactured at Bicakcilar plants. Our goal here is to be able to offer the most advanced and high-quality products in the surgical tables and lamps to the hospitals. In addition, we have a sensor and device development project where we are cooperating with ODTU MEMS center to analyze the KYD waves generated after brain traumas. Developments in electronic and software technologies play a very active role in the health sector, as they do in every aspect of our lives. One of the areas where artificial intelligence has started to be used most effectively is health applications. Also, the technologies such as robot technologies, image processing technologies, remote access, MEMS, etc. are also being effectively used in the health sector.

So, what are the biggest challenges you face in terms of creating innovative solutions in health technologies?

Pandemi öncesinde, çevik proje yönetimi konusunda eğitimler alıyorduk. Ancak pandeminin gelmesi ile üstlendiğimiz yoğun bakım solunum cihazı projesinde, bir anda kendimizi Çevik proje yönetiminin gerçek pratiğinin içinde bulduk. Her sabah ekip ile o gün yapılacak işleri planlıyorduk. Gün içinde hem ekip ile hem diğer proje paydaşlarımız (Aselsan, Baykar ve Biosys) ile birlikte uzaktan toplantılar yapıyorduk. Akşamları ise her ekibin lideri günlük raporları hazırlayıp, bir üst yöneticisine iletiyordu. Projede sürekli beklenmedik durumlar oluyordu. Mesela Amerikan hükümetinin, projede kullandığımız oransal valflerin, üreticisi ile anlaşmamıza rağmen, ülke dışına çıkmasını yasaklaması gibi. Aniden farklı bir üreticiye dönülüyor, tüm hesaplamalar yeniden yapılıyor ve elektronik kartlar yeniden çiziliyor. Bizim için hedef 5000 adet cihazı gününde, tüm fonksiyonları ile çalışır, kaliteli bir biçimde teslim etmekti. Çevik yaklaşım ile, bu hedefe ulaşmak için, bir yol kapandığında durmadık, farklı yollar bularak hedefe ulaşmaya çalıştık. Kısaca söylemek gerekirse, öğrendiğimiz en önemli kazanımlardan biri, çevik proje yönetimi oldu.

Amperino, one of the leading companies aiming to provide sustainable solutions in the automotive sector of Turkey, attracts attention with its journey that started in Inegol. In the interview we conducted with Muammer Yildiztac, an experienced Hardware Design Engineer of the Amperino Electronics & Software team, we gained valuable information about the company and its innovative projects. Yildiztac explained how Amperino has brought a fresh air to the industry and told about the company’s goals for the future of electric car technologies.

Can you please introduce yourself?

I graduated Electronic Communication Engineering and have been working in the automotive sector at Amperino for about 2 years now. I am conducting hardware design and testing activities here.

Can you tell us about Amperino?

Amperino is a local-national L7 class electric car project for urban use, which was initiated in Bursa, Inegol in 2020, with the focus on global renewable resources. The project was initiated by 6 companies operating in furniture and machinery industries in Inegol. We have a fresh and dynamic team of about 40 people, consisting of engineers from different disciplines. We also have a software team in Bilisim Vadisi. Considering the needs in our country and around the world and taking into consideration that the people usually make short-distance trips that do not require very long distances in their daily life, such as going to work, shopping, school etc., we decided to design an urban car. Our first model Amperino C-100, which is an urban electric car, offers a range between 150 to 200 km and a maximum speed of 90 km/h as per the regulations. We have manufactured three different prototypes with our team and our tests are continuing. We have made our vehicle’s launch in 2023, at the centenary of our republic, and continue to work for mass production.

What kind of solution does Amperino’s compact vehicle design offer to the issue of urban traffic and parking space?

The car we designed is L7 class and is very convenient for urban use. It is extremely suitable for urban use both in terms of its dimensions, design and technical characteristics. It needs less parking space since its dimensions are smaller than those of M-class vehicles, and it is also easier to park as the user’s field of view and control on the vehicle are better thanks to our design.

User experience compared to conventional ICE vehicles?

Our vehicle design aims to get ahead of our competitors with its technical features and comfort. In addition to making the journeys more enjoyable with multimedia features, we have also increased the vehicle’s functionality with applications such as vehicle controls, theme editing features, various updates and market facilities we have created for the vehicle. We will use in-wheel HUB motors manufactured in Turkey in our vehicle. This makes it possible to supply drive force directly from the wheel without the need for any differential or drivetrain, which is an important advantage. The vehicle offers significant savings in terms of both volume, weight and maintenance requirements. In addition, the Amperino offers a more comfortable knee room than its competitors, as well as a large trunk volume of about 370 liters.

Our first model Amperino C-100, which is an urban electric car, offers a range between
150 to -200 km and a maximum speed of 90 km/h as per the regulations.

Can you tell us about Amperino’s innovative battery pack?

Our battery pack is quite modular and is mounted on the chassis. With this design, we have made the vehicle’s center of gravity more balanced, which has improved road handling and safety. The vehicle can be charged at home in 240 minutes and at the station in about 80 minutes, and these times will be even shorter in the future. We have also integrated our battery management system and power distribution unit into the battery pack. In this way, the capabilities of our battery pack have been increased. We also supported the battery with a liquid cooling system. This will not only reduce the charging time significantly but also further increase the battery performance.

What are the main features that distinguish Amperino from its competitors, and also the internal design and software/hardware development?

First of all,all equipment,software and vehicle control unit, is manufactured within Amperino. We believe that this is very important since we are developing our own technology. The embedded system software and all the hardware are being developed at our Inegol office, while our software office in Bilisim Vadisi is working on mobile applications and on-board software. Also, while many of our competitors are manufacturing two-seater vehicles, we have positioned the driver’s seat in the middle. This gave us the opportunity to offer both a comfortable trip and a large trunk/storage capacity. We anticipate that the vehicle will also be competitive in terms of its price.

What are the performance information and control features offered to the users via mobile applications and how do these features affect the user experience?

We design our multimedia system inhouse, which gives the user a wide range possibilities. This will also allow the user to update the themes and other functions of the system. Software updates can also be made via these applications after the sale of the vehicle. Also, the user will be supported with market applications and will be able to use various programs according to their needs. In the future, users can even interact with different users via these applications.

What are the contributions of the skateboard chassis design to road handling and interior comfort of the vehicle?

The skateboard chassis integrates the battery pack as part of the vehicle’s base structure. This layout lowers the vehicle’s center of gravity, significantly increasing the stability of the vehicle. In addition, the batteries can be easily replaced and resized without changing the vehicle structure.

Can you explain how Amperino aims to play a role in the electric vehicle industry in the future and what strategies it is pursuing to achieve these goals?

As you know, the use of electric vehicles is increasing day by day. In order for Turkey to take a good share in this market, we aim to be a company that creates added value and are shaping our technology in this direction. Together with mass production, we plan to sell the vehicle domestically first and export within a few years. In line with these plans and schedule, we have developed the vehicle’s architecture, software and hardware inhouse and created our own know-how. We have built a modular platform rather than only a vehicle. We think that this is an important breakthrough both in terms of technology and trained human force in the automotive industry.

Bairong Xu, the successful general manager of Proxima, is known for his deep knowledge and leadership abilities in the industry. Xu, graduated the universities of Guangdong and East Anglia, has made significant contributions to Proxima’s global success since he joined the company. In this interview, we will focus on Xu’s roles at Proxima as well as the company’s strategies and future vision.

Can you please introduce yourself?

Hi, I’m Bairong Xu. I was born in 1982. I’m the General Manager of Proxima, the Chinese branch of Özdisan Electronic.

How about your educational background?

I studied bachelor’s degree in International Economics and Commerce at Guangdong University of Finance and Economics. After that I completed my Master’s degree in
International Business Economics at the University of East Anglia in England.

Can you tell us about your experience and your story of joining Proxima?

I started my career in 2007 within SEG Group. SEG Group, backed by state investments, owns 40% of ST’s factory in China. During my role there, I have made many Turkish friends. One of these was Tamer Kaplan. With him, I met with Proxima. During my term at SEG Group, I have gained extensive
experience in the fields of customs declarations, import and export processes, tax incentives in China, and potential suppliers research. Thanks to this experience, Proxima, where I currently work, opened its doors to me.

We only supply from large-scale suppliers and manage our processes in cooperation with Whitehorse Laboratories to test the authenticity of products.

Can you tell us about your role at Proxima and the advantages that Proxima offers?

The Proxima office is located at North Huaqiang component trade center, one of the most popular
component centers worldwide. We have a network where we can easily access hundreds of thousands of components and closely follow the current component trends and competitive prices in the world.
Proxima owns a 300m2 warehouse in Hong Kong. Hong Kong applies tax exemption for import and export processes. We are also able to ship from Hong Kong to anywhere in the world easily. Our visitors can visit us whenever they want and get information about our business processes.

This is my 6th year at Proxima. As a purchasing unit, our priority is always quality. We purchase from companies that meet our company’s criteria. We examine all of our suppliers in detail before establishing any business cooperation with them. We only supply from large-scale suppliers and manage our processes in cooperation with accredited laboratories to test the authenticity of products.
In November, we made a visit to İstanbul as tha Proxima team. It was flatterring to see our teams working in harmony to achieve our goals.

As the Proxima team, we had the chance to visit Özdisan during
our business trip to İstanbul in November.

Can you share your ideas about the current condition of the markets, as well as the future?

Although we observed a recession in the markets as a result of economic developments in 2023, we believe that growth will increase with the development of new technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and 5G communication. The increasing popularity of ChatGPT and its use in various fields, the innovations introduced by NVIDIA’s chip unit, and the high-tech products backed by companies such as BYD and Tesla are increasing the growth potential of the market.

And, what are your final messages for our readers?

We highly appreciate the stable growth strategy determined by our boss, Mustafa Yurttaş. As an old
Chinese proverb says: ‘The wood you stored in good weather warms you up on rainy days.’ I strongly believe that we will overcome any kinds of challenges with this solid and stable strategy. I am very proud to be a part of Özdisan and DMY Group.

How did you establish the Quality Management System as Özdisan Electronic?

We have established our Quality Management System in accordance with the ISO 9001 Quality Management Standard and keep it constantly updated. In addition to ISO 9001, we have also incorporated ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 27001 certificates.

Could you give information about the implementation of Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data in your company?

Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data entered into force after the transition process was
completed in 2018. As Özdisan, we made our transitions in 2019 by fulfilling the processes required by this law. We receive, process and store the personal data of our employees, suppliers, customers, visitors and employee candidates in accordance with this law. We manage all personal data under our responsibility in accordance with the rules by taking the administrative and technical precaution requested by the law and the PDPA.

At Özdisan Electronics, “Quality” is a responsibility for all employees,
not only for one person or a group.

What is your approach to Information Security Management System and what level are you at in this field?
We fulfilled the responsibilities of the ISO 27001 Information Security Management System, one of the prerequisites for the transition to the “Authorized Economic Operator (AEO )”, and received our certificate in late 2022. We have established a system that will protect the confidentiality, integrity and accessibility of our data at the highest level against information security and cyber security threats in all our processes and manage the risks that may occur. We fully fulfill adequate information security and physical security precautions in our system room and other units.
