The most popular holiday route of recent years, the Orient Express, opens the doors of a fairy-tale adventure stretching from Ankara to Kars with its tourist flights. The 1320 km Eastern Express reaches Kars by passing through the unique landscapes of Kirikkale, Kayseri, Sivas, Erzincan and Erzurum. This train journey, which starts in the evening, becomes more enjoyable with short breaks on the way. The journey lasts 24 hours and 30 minutes, and there are 10-15 minute breaks in big cities, except for 3-4 minute breaks that introduce small stations. Those who want to have a holiday in Kars, which is the last stop, should expect a white city full of snow, especially during winter. While Sarikamis Ski Resort attracts great attention during this period, it also becomes the end point of a unique train journey with the Eastern Express, which travels from city to city. In the Orient Express, where 4 types of tickets are available, the seats in the double row arrangement, called \u201cpulman\u201d, are the first option. While this is the cheapest version of the trip, the covered couched compartment that can be converted into a 4-person bed, is also often preferred. There is also another option called a \u201cdining car\u201d, as a compartment option that has 2 beds and is almost like a small room. Sarikamis, the Land of Martyrs<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Sarikamis, which is one of the most important tourism routes of T\u00fcrkiye, offers a different beauty every season. The Katerina\u2019s Mansion, built by Russian Tsar Nicholas II, is known as one of the registered estates that has managed to survive to the present day, preserving its original architecture. One of the most beautiful examples of 19th century Baltic architecture, the Catherine Mansion consists of two structures: a hunting mansion and a main mansion. The most important feature of this structure, which has an unusual architecture as if it sprang from a magical world, is that it is made of solid wood and built without using any nails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The City of Temples: Ani<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

One of the places you should definitely see when you come to Kars is the Ancient City of Ani. This historical city, which is home to many civilizations, is also mentioned in the legends as the \u201cCity of 1001 Churches\u201d. There are about 40 churches, chapels and monumental tombs in Ani, which has managed to stand up against several wars and earthquakes for centuries. Ani, which is an important region also for religions other than Christianity, hosts the first mosque built by the Turks in Anatolia as well. In addition, the first Zoroastrian temple of Anatolia is also located in Ateshge in Ani. Ani, added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016, is among the most important cultural heritages, not only of our country but also of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n

Kars Grand Mosque<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Kars Grand Mosque, located in the Kaleici district of Kars, was built in 1643 by Dilaver Pasha, the Beylerbeyi of Kars, during the reign of Sultan Ibrahim. The mosque, which was burned by Armenians at the end of World War I, was also severely damaged by earthquakes and became unusable. However, the mosque was restored in 1997 and regained its final appearance and current form.<\/p>\n\n\n

Kars Castle<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Kars Castle, which was built in 1153 by the order of the Saltuk Sultan Melik Izzeddin, has witnessed many wars and failed to preserve its authenticity until today. The castle, which has been declared as a protected area by the Ministry of Culture, consists of 4 large gates, namely Su, Kagizman, Behram and the gate located in the northern direction of the cliff. Kars Museum<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Kars has the characteristics of an ancient settlement center as it has witnessed the transition of many civilizations. The Kars Museum, founded in 1959, was moved to its current service building in 1980. Modern Kars Museum is today one of the most important museums where archaeological, ethnographic and stone structures are exhibited. In the archaeological halls of Kars Museum, artifacts from the Paleolithic, Neolithic, Chalcolithic, Early Bronze Age, Urartu, Roman, East Roman, Seljuk and Principality periods are exhibited. In the Ethnography hall, on the other hand, woven carpets and rugs, silver belts, handwritten Qurans, kitchen utensils and ornaments from the 18th and 19th centuries are exhibited.
