This technology, used in LCD displays, provides accurate pixel management, resulting in clearer, high-quality and fast-responding images. It is named after the thin film transistors used in its manufacturing and forms one of the basic building blocks of modern display technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>The First Steps of TFT Technology (1960s-1980s)<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The foundations of TFT technology were laid in the 1960s, following the developments in the field of semiconductors and microelectronics. The first important development was by Paul K Weimer, one of the researchers at RCA (Radio Corporation of America), when he developed the first TFT in 1962. In 1968, Bernard J. Lechner suggested that TFT technology could be used in LCD displays, and the first TFT-LCD display was manufactured by Westinghouse Research Laboratories in 1973.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During this period, TFT technology offered much faster and more accurate imaging than passive matrix systems by enabling individual control of screen pixels. This innovation was the first step in the revolution of TFT technology in industrial and consumer electronics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>The 1990s and the Commercial Success<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 1990s were a period when TFT technology was widely used and gained commercial success. In those years, TFT panels have found their place in many different fields such as computer monitors, televisions and mobile devices. Asia-Pacific countries, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and China in the lead, have become the centers of TFT panel manufacturing. As the manufacturing costs have decreased, this technology has become a standard display solution and reached a wider audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Key Innovations in TFT Technology<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thin Film Transistor (TFT) technology is one of the basic building blocks of display technologies and has undergone a significant evolution over time. TFTs, which were initially used only on small screens, are now the basis of large-sized, high-resolution and energy-efficient displays. This technology, developed at the end of the 1970s, has been used especially in LCD screens. Amorphous silicon stood out for its low-cost manufacturing and wide applicability in large areas, but it had limitations such as slow electrical response time and low resolution. LTPS provided a much faster electrical response and higher resolution than amorphous silicon. This technology has allowed the production of thinner and less energy-consuming screens. IGZO is a semiconductor material that uses indium, gallium and zinc oxide components. This technology has provided a significant improvement, especially for mobile devices and televisions, with its lower energy consumption and higher resolution compared to that of LTPS. The advantages of IGZO include a faster electrical response time, a wider range of colors and less energy consumption. This makes modern AMOLED and LCD screens thinner, clearer and more efficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Screen Glass Substrate and Main Glass<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The display glass substrate plays a major role in the manufacturing of TFT backgrounds. These glass substrates are a special type of glass that is thermally stable, strong, durable, can support most TFT technologies and also provide the required resolution. As the current market demands are constantly moving from medium to large sized display panels for TVs and other electronic devices, this creates new challenges and opportunities for manufacturers of display glass substrates in terms of increasing productivity and maximizing output, while also keeping manufacturing costs low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main characteristics that glass substrates should provide are minimum total thickness variations (TTV), low sagging and low total-pitch variations (TPV). During the TFT background manufacturing process, the display glass substrate goes through several production stages. Between these processes, the glass substrate may be deformed in terms of shape or size (this is called total-pitch variation, TPV). The low total-pitch variation translates into a better screen glass substrate. Also, during the TFT background manufacturing process, the display glass substrate is subjected to many coating processes and bends due to their weight, which defines the term \u201csagging\u201d. The low sagging property of large-size display glass substrates provides better stability and durability, as well as offers low manufacturing costs. When large-size display glass substrates are of concern, the thickness variation of the glass is defined by the term \u201ctotal thickness variation\u201d (TTV). These glasses go through different manufacturing processes and are individually cut into various sizes that are used in fields such as smartphones, televisions, wearable devices, as well as automobile industry. The size of the \u201dmain glass\u201c is determined by the term \u201dGeneration&#8221;. Newer generations refer to larger main glass dimensions compared to older generations. For instance, Gen 10 glass is much larger in size compared to Gen 1 glass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Main Glass and Panels<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main glass sizes in different generations may vary slightly in different manufacturers. The term \u201cmulti-model glass\u201d refers to the cutting of display glass substrates of different sizes from the main glass, ensuring a good cutting efficiency to minimize manufacturing costs. Many researches are underway to improve the quality of the main glass and increase its availability with reasonable manufacturing costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>TFT Technologies of the Future<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, TFT technology is moving towards becoming more durable, energy efficient and environmentally-friendly. The new generation TFTs combine with higher-resolution organic light-emitting diodes such as OLED to offer brighter and richer colors. Also, advances in the manufacturing process and material science allow screens to be manufactured in larger sizes and thinner designs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>TFT Panel Technology Today<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, TFT panels have a wide range of uses in different sectors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
