Intengration of Nuvoton ML56AND Capacitive Touch: Innovation in Functionality

Today, the technological developments are not limited to computers and phones. Basic appliances, such as white goods, are also being transformed with the convenience and facilities offered by new technologies. Some of these leading transformations are capacitive touch feature and control
integrations. These integrations come with touch detection for use and eye-pleasing designs. They allow more intuitive and convenient use with touch integrations on our electronic devices instead of mechanical buttons. Today, we will give you information about the advantages of touch-control buttons, which are common in many applications today such as the household appliances, how you can integrate them into your device, their ease of use, and the solutions in the Nuvoton product range. Capacitive touch buttons are one of the most important user interface components widely used in electronic devices today. Touch buttons allow users to interact with devices without any physical contact. These buttons function with capacitive touch technology and usually offer an aesthetic appearance. They are used in many fields such as white goods, automotive controls and industrial applications. They attract the users with their aesthetic design and ease of use, and also allow the devices to have a modern appearance. Capacitive touch buttons provide the basis for user-friendly interfaces and making it easier and more enjoyable to use technology in daily life.

The advantages of integration with capacitive touch buttons are not limited to aesthetic elements. One of the reasons the manufacturers prefer these buttons is that they are more durable and offer a longer
service life compared to mechanical buttons, since they don’t contain moving parts. For users, on the other hand, the advantages of these buttons are their long service life, as well as ease of maintenance and cleaning. Touch buttons provide instant feedback to the user with their adjustable sensitivity and fast response time. They may also have more than one function, for example they can recognize
different functions such as double tapping, press and hold, and scrolling actions. These buttons play a basic role in creating userfriendly interfaces and make the use of technology more practical and enjoyable. Being continuously improved further, they will continue to offer even more functionality and ease of use in the future.

NUVOTON, one of the most important microprocessor manufacturers in the world and one of our most important distributors, has responded to current technological developments and integrated capacitive touch feature to its range of processors.

The features of the Nuvoton family ML56 processor series, which is often applied in R&D projects and which we offer to our customers as a solution, are as follows.
● The ML56 series is a low-power consumption microcontroller based on the 1T 8051 core.
● It has 64 KB flash and 4 KB SRAM, a built-in capacitive touch key and an LCD driver. It can run to 24 MHz.
● It operates below 100μA/MHz in normal operation mode to save power, and the power cut-off current is below 2μA when the LCD panel is on. The ML56 series operates in the range of 1.8V~3.6V, and -40°C to 105°C.
● The NuMicro® ML56 series has a waterproof integrated capacitive touch detection circuit with an improved touch key controller with low power consumption and high noise resistance characteristics.
● The touch key can be used as a wake-up trigger and has 10- Vrms noise immunity, which is suitable especially for household appliances and industrial control.

The “touch” features are as follows:
● It provides support for up to 14 touch keys and 1 reference key.
● Programmable sensitivity levels for each touch button,
● In terms of water resistance, the ML56 series can recognize full finger touch even in a water drop with 2 mm depth.
● Programmable scanning speed for different applications,
● Supports any touch key wake-up for low power applications.
● Supports single key scanning and programmable periodic key scanning,

With NuSenadj, shown in the image, we can calibrate our touch field and determine its sensitivity by connecting to Uart pins of our processor.
