Boardoza VL53L5CX
BOARDOZA VL53L5CX is a compact and high-performance sensor module designed for multi-zone (multizone) distance sensing applications, based on STMicroelectronics’ advanced VL53L5CX Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor. Thanks to Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology, it performs absolute distance measurement independently of the target’s color, surface texture, or reflectivity. The sensor utilizes a SPAD (Single Photon Avalanche Diodes) array, diffractive optical elements (DOE), and a 940 nm invisible VCSEL laser (EYE-SAFE) integrated system to divide the scene into multiple zones within a square field of view (FoV) and take measurements.
The Boardoza VL53L5CX module offers up to 64 independent measurement zones, with configurations of 4×4 or 8×8 zones. This enables it to go beyond single-point distance information, enabling advanced functions such as near-field depth mapping, motion detection, and multi-target detection. The histogram-based algorithms running on the sensor effectively suppress cover glass crosstalk issues commonly encountered in applications involving glass surfaces. With a measurement rate of up to 60 Hz and a range of up to 400 cm, the module is suitable for systems that require fast response times.
